Frequently asked questions
Do you charge travel fees for an out of Indianapolis, IN engagement session or wedding?
Yes, we do charge travel fees for weddings and sessions 1 hour outside of the Indianapolis area. Depending on the location, we charge for travel time, mileage, flights and hotel rates. Each out of town location require specific consideration and a custom travel charge will be assessed.
What info do I need to know when planning my engagement session?
Engagement sessions typically last 2 hours and we recommend an outfit change. Most clients like one casual look and one more sophisticated. Starting out in the most dressy clothing tends to work best. We like to find a location with special meaning or that fits our client's personality and style. Early mornings and evenings have the best lighting for shoots and we photograph Monday-Thursdays. Evenings tend to work best for most couples and is our favorite time of day! If you plan to use your images for save-the-date cards, you will want to schedule your session at least 6 months prior to the wedding date. Just be sure to arrive in happy moods and ready to love on each other for a couple hours!
Can we set up a time to meet prior to booking you as our photographer?
Yes! We love getting to know our clients prior to booking. It is very important that Brides and Grooms mesh well with their photographers. We are one of the few wedding vendors who will be in constant contact with you leading up to, during and after your big day! We typically like to chat over coffee and can find a local location that is convenient‎ for our potential clients.
Should I hire a wedding planner? How important is having a coordinator to assist me?
Having a wedding planner ensures you can simply relax and enjoy every aspect of your wedding day! We strive to create timelines and assist with as much planning as possible. However having a person to rely on, at any time, is priceless to a Bride! There are so many tiny details that a professional will handle for you. Something we hear over and over again from our couples is "I wish I would have hired a wedding planner" because they don't realize how overwhelming their special event can be, when they try to take on all of the responsibilities. An experienced wedding planner is worth every bit of the budget! We have a list of several fantastic planners we can recommend and who do amazing work!
How much time should I allot for formal photos on the wedding day?
Our passion is to provide our couples with as many beautiful images as possible, however creativity does take time. For us to have relaxed formal photos, we like to have at least 45 minutes to 1 hour with only our Brides and Grooms. This allows for walking time to picturesque locations. The Bride and Groom portrait hour is also the only time during the entire day, that you have "Alone time" before being surrounded by your guests...Be sure to soak up the special moments together! We also like to have 30 minutes for photographing the Wedding Party and typically 15 minutes for family photos. Family photos are best following the ceremony while everyone is gathered. We recommend making a list of immediate family group combinations for photos, to ensure no important family members are missed. Large extended family photos usually are best taken during the reception. Travel time does often affect photos. Bride and Groom and Wedding Party portrait locations should be discussed during timeline creation, to ensure enough travel time has been allotted. This might seem as though this is a lot of time however it will fly by!
